Airless Bottles vs Pump Bottles: Which Is Right for Your Serum?

Both airless bottles and standard pump bottles dispense liquid cosmetics, but they treat the formula very differently. The choice affects shelf life, how much product the customer can use, and the cost of the pack.

How an airless bottle works

An airless pack has a piston that rises as product is pumped out. The formula never touches air and is not drawn back into the bottle, so it stays protected from oxidation and bacteria, and the dose is consistent from the first pump to the last.

How a pump bottle works

A standard pump draws product up a dip tube. It is simpler and usually cheaper, works well for thinner formulas, and is easy to recycle because there are fewer components.

Choose airless when

  • The formula contains actives such as vitamin C, retinol or peptides that oxidise in air
  • You want a precise, hygienic dose and very low product waste
  • You want a premium, technical look on shelf

Choose a standard pump when

  • The formula is stable and you want the lowest unit cost
  • You need a large capacity or a very simple pack construction
  • Your priority is easy end-of-life recycling

Practical considerations

Airless bottles are often specified in capacities from 15ml to 50ml with acrylic or AS outer bottles and PP inner components. Standard pumps suit a wider capacity range from 30ml upwards. Whichever you choose, decoration options such as silk-screen printing, hot stamping and labelling apply to both.

Our usual MOQ is 10,000 pcs per item with about 30 days of lead time after sample approval and deposit. Email sales@joysinpack.com with your formula type and target capacity and we will suggest a pack.
