PET vs HDPE vs PP: Choosing the Right Material for Cosmetic BottlesMost cosmetic bottles are made from one of three plastics. The right choice depends on what you are filling, how the product is used, and what look you want on shelf. PET (polyethylene terephthalate)Clear, glossy and strong. PET is the usual choice for shampoo, toner, body wash and hair dye where customers want to see the product. It takes silk-screen printing and hot stamping well. Because PET is rigid, it suits larger bottles and pumps. HDPE (high density polyethylene)Opaque, flexible and resistant to many chemicals. HDPE is common for lotions, creams and products with active ingredients. It is a good fit when the formula needs protection from light, and it is easy to colour to a Pantone reference. PP (polypropylene)Light, heat resistant and often used for closures, airless inner bottles and components rather than the outer bottle. PP works well where a component has to flex, such as a flip-top cap or a piston. Recycled and eco-friendly optionsPCR (post-consumer recycled) grades are now available for PET, HDPE and PP, and can be used for many cosmetic projects. Recycled content is confirmed per item, and material is inspected before mass production. How to decide
